This course is an introduction to the clinical lab setting, laboratory safety, specimen collection, laboratory math and measurement concepts, use and care of lab equipment, CLIA regulations, including patient test management and quality assurance.

This course covers the fundamentals of performing manual and automated electrocardiograms: preparing the patient, applying leads correctly, recording and mounting the tracing. Standard 12- lead electrocardiograms will be performed. Monitoring of heart rhythm will be discussed. Prerequisite: MEDA 1010

This course covers the role of the medical assistant in relation to the following areas: ethical-legal issues, community resources, patient education, hiring practices, job seeking/keeping skills, plus review using simulated lab situations.

This course teaches medical office skills including filing, medical appointments, telephone techniques, billing, and handling medical records. Students will also learn medical insurance (including Medicare and Medicaid), insurance forms, as well as proper coding techniques using ICD-9-CM, CPT, and HCPCs. Prerequisite: GSCI 1001, MEDA 1010, MEDA 1021, MEDA 1113 or consent of the instructor

This course presents the origin and nature of X-rays and how they are used to produce medical radiographic images. There will also be some content on positioning of the patient.

This course is designed to prepare the student to sit for the national certification examination. The course will include an overview of theory learned in the classroom setting. The student will also be expected to study outside of class to prepare for this exam.

This course covers a review of basic math, drug information sources, drug standards and legislations, pharmaceutical prepara- tions and prescriptions. Students will also learn the study of drugs according to classification and/or body systems. Prerequisite: MEDA 1010, MEDA 1021 or instructor consent
