The primary focus of this class is to build a portfolio and presentation CD that will enable a student majoring in Computer Art and Publishing to enter the industry immediately following graduation. Student's work will be critiqued regularly by faculty and our advisory committee.

This course develops the skills of illustration using vector-based software such as Adobe Illustrator. Assignments will have an emphasis on concept, creativity, communication, technical correctness and presentation. Students will be exposed to all areas of illustration and advertising using a variety of black and white and color techniques. The course will be organized around a series of assigned projects and exercises involving print media as well as the opportunity for independent work.

This class will consider how technology has changed the way we create and alter photographs and the opportunities they provide for the designer. Students will use different devices and technology to import their images including: digital cameras, scanners, clip art and Internet images. Assignments will use image altering software such as Adobe Photoshop. The course will be organized around a series of assigned projects and exercises involving print media as well as the opportunity for independent work.

4.00 - 5.00 Credits
The project will be a semester long developed by the student in consultation with a faculty member. It is topic-oriented and focuses on an appropriate advertising design, illustration or desktop publishing topic. It can take the form of: 1) a research project based on an in-depth problem and analysis; 2) a computer-based project with a concentration on the development of a particular strength, style or need; 3) a project developed between the student, faculty, and administration that will further develop the student's knowledge of Computer Art and Publishing.

In today's world of digital communication, the artboard, straight edge, and pencil have been replaced by the computer, scanner, digital camera, and direct-to-plate technology. In this class, the following topics are covered: color theory and application, fundamentals of reproduction, flatbed scanning, digital camera option, output procedures, analysis of several types of electronic resolution, postscript and PDF files, and archive and storage devices.

This course consists of the activities needed to finish the interior of a house once it has been framed up. Some activities include insulation, drywall, installing doors, window and door casings, baseboard, pocket doors, closet bifold doors, countertops, and closet shelving.

This course is designed to help students become aware of the dangers involved in the carpentry trade. The student will demonstrate preventive safety, along with emergency procedures which may be needed on a construction site. This course also covers parts and proper use of hand, portable, and stationary power tools. Each student will perform exercises to bring them to a level of competency acceptable to the carpentry trade.

In this course the student will learn to frame up a residential structure from the foundation to the roof. The model home will be used as the lab experience, along with classroom lectures.

This course will acquaint the student with the basic equipment and materials used in drafting. The student will design and produce a complete set of plans for a house including preliminary sketches, floor plan, basement plan, section views, elevations, detail drawings and window/door schedules.

In this course the student will learn how to read residential blueprints and visualize each view. The student will learn how to estimate the materials needed to build the structure using a set of blueprints.
