This course introduces our Macintosh and PC Windows-based computer systems to the user. Computer terminology, operation of current software, Internet exploration, and proper use of equipment such as scanners, external storage units, printers, and digital cameras will be emphasized. Proper keyboarding techniques, and improvement of the students accuracy and time will also be included in this course.

This course will acquaint students with the basics of several computer graphics software programs. Students will learn techniques and tools common to all image editing and drawing programs. The emphasis will be on improving and working with scanned images. Projects include creating company logos and letterhead, catalog images, and color photos.

This course will provide an in-depth look at the printing process, with an emphasis on offset lithography. The course will take the student from specifying a proposed print job, through pre-press, to troubleshooting during the printing operation. Tours of various local print shops, newspapers, service bureaus, and related industries are a part of this course.

This course emphasizes principles of layout and design of printed media. A study of typography, color theory, logo design, and advertising layout is included. Projects include type design, company logos, letterhead, label design, and display ads.

This course offers an introduction to the exciting new world of multimedia presentations and web page development. Color photos, sound, and video can all be incorporated into presentations that will dazzle the senses. Web page design is included.

This course emphasizes advanced principles of layout and design for printed media. Students will learn type fitting and page layout techniques. Projects will include company and brand logo design, company brochures and catalogs, package design, and a CD or video cover. A study of ethics in advertising is included.

This course familiarizes the student with desktop publishing software with an emphasis on QuarkXPress. The course covers typography, advertisement and page layout, business forms, and small brochures. Scanner operation and printing documents will also be included.

This course provides an advanced study of desktop publishing software. The student will create newsletters, multi-page brochures, catalogs, and magazines. Students will incorporate skills learned in drawing and image editing software programs. Prerequisite: CART 2601 or prior desktop publishing experience

This course will provide a working knowledge of various computer graphic software programs including image editing and drawing programs. The emphasis will be on designing original art, book and magazine covers, advertising layouts, and editorial illustrations. Prerequisite: CART 1101 or prior Macintosh experience

This course will familiarize the student with the basic composition and elements of technical writing. Layout and design and technical writing skills will be improved. Students will develop a survey, create charts and graphs, and write a formal report. Students will also create an operator's manual for a small machine.
