Emphasis is placed on the study of writing business reports and proposals. Also included is instruction in composing different types of effective business memorandums and letters including bad news messages, good news messages, persuasive messages, collection letters, goodwill messages, resumes, and application letters. Other business communications skills developed are oral presentations and job-hunting skills.

Fundamental accounting and statistics concepts are covered including debits, credits, depreciation, bank reconciliation, financial statements, norms, central tendency, measurement, metrics, percentiles, trade discounts, markup, bank discounts and interest calculation. A spreadsheet using the computer is introduced. Useful to students planning to enter accounting and statistics classes in need of basic math review.

An introductory course in computers, including a history of computers, information systems, and societal impact. An introduction to computer applications is also studied using word processing, spreadsheets, data base programs, and the Internet.

A course intended to give an introduction to word processing in today's office. Topics covered will include the structure of word processing, use of the computer as a word processor and production of business documents. The software used is MS Word.

This course covers proper design elements and printing alternatives to enable efficient publishing of flyers, brochures and newsletters, from a computer using IBM and Macintosh hardware and publishing software, including Pagemaker.

This course is approved by the Commissioner of Commerce and fulfills 30 hours of the 45-hour instructional requirement to become eligible to test for an insurance salesperson license. Topics covered include agent conduct, insurance marketing standards, Minnesota law, insurance organization, management of risk, property and casualty insurance, life/accident and health insurance.

This course is designed for the non-business, non-economics major who wishes to further his/her knowledge of the economic problems facing the United States. A non-mathematical approach to topics including demand, supply, elasticity, perfect competition, pure monopoly, pollution, government regulation, taxes, unemployment, and inflation. This is a terminal course and should not be taken after ECON 206 & 207.
