The basic principles and techniques for selling agricultural products and services and providing customer service. Selling skills will emphasize the problem-solving approach.

Management of the sales activity of agricultural products and services, including such topics as servicing the agriculture market, organizing sales meetings, developing farm show exhibits, creating policies, managing a department and managing time and sales territories.

Agvance is used to make seed, plant food, and crop protection recommendations based on soil test information and field history. Agvance Mapping is also used.

General principles involved in the organization, operation, and decision making of the farm business. Basic accounting principles will be applied by entering financial and production data on computer farm record keeping systems. Calculation procedures used in partial and enterprise budgets in farm business.

Procedures used in whole farm budgeting, checking on farm efficiency and organization, and expansion or other alternatives. Completion and evaluation of projected whole farm cash flow budgets. The structure, organization and requirements for different sources of agriculture credit and finance available today for the farm business.

Introduction to basic estate planning options, life insurance, probate process, wills, and the economic impact of selected estate plans. Analyzing the use of goals, partnerships, corporations, farms, operating agreements, owning land, and handling farm employees in the farm business. Ag cooperatives structure, operations, and farmer benefits.

Use of farm records for income tax management and year end analysis. Estimates of tax liability and procedures in filing income tax will be developed. Financial records will be studied for measures of earnings and success factors related to farm earnings. The Annual Report of the Farm Business Management will be reviewed.

This course includes three diverse topics important to farm managers today: personnel management (recruiting, hiring, evaluation), supervision techniques (motivating, delegating, and conflict resolution); basic organizational and financial structure of agricultural cooperatives and the value-added impact on farmers today; and business planning needs of today's farms.

Independent work by keeping records on home farm. Develop an opening inventory, beginning balance sheet, and depreciation schedule. Recording the first, second, third, fourth quarter financial and production entries. Calculating ending inventory and ending balance sheet. Submit records for analysis, and one-on-one review of year-end report.
