This course is a continuation of the nursing skills and techniques begun in Veterinary Nursing Procedures I and II. Techniques covered will include restraint, behavior, and nursing care of large animals. Emphasis will include preventive medicine, large animal nutrition and feedstuffs, large animal medical and surgical procedures, large animal breeds, food safety, lameness examinations and conditions, and necropsy procedures.

This course is a continuation of the concepts of Kennel Management and Animal Care. Emphasis will be on teamwork, mentoring, communication, preventive health care and health problem assessments, and clinical and advanced nutrition.

This course will cover the basic principles of the production of X-rays, use of radiographic equipment and accessories, processing, identification, and storage of radiographic film, patient positioning, and the issues of legal records and radiation safety. Other imaging techniques will be discussed.

This course is a continuation of the laboratory skills and techniques already begun. Techniques covered include urinalysis, blood chemistries, cytology, review of hematology and serology, and other laboratory tests utilized in veterinary hospitals.

This course will cover the use of anesthetics, anesthesia principles, patient monitoring, pre-surgery preparation and post-surgical care of small animals, principles of surgery and sterilization, and surgical assisting. Dosage calculations will be reinforced and maintenance of anesthesia and surgical equipment will be introduced.

This course will assist students in the development of job search skills and documents necessary for successful, self-directed job search and career placement. Included will be interpersonal skills for success, resume preparation and other employment application materials, review and selection of internship sites, and completion off all requirements leading toward successful graduation and career. Journaling of student internship experiences will be an expected outcome of this class tying the class directly to internship.

This course will teach routine office procedures with emphasis on client relations and education, ethics in veterinary medicine, inventory management, leadership skills, and state and federal regulations governing veterinary practices. This course incorporates a hands-on laboratory covering all aspects of clinical patient care.

This course is a continuation of Disease Processes I. Diseases of public health significance as well as disease control and management practices will be emphasized. Diseases discussed will emphasize the awareness of the cause of disease, the effects of disease on the body, as well as disease control and management procedures.

This course will cover the care and management of common laboratory species. Discussion will include husbandry, common diseases, nursing procedures, and preventive health care. Exotic and laboratory animals are introduced in laboratory sessions.

1.00 Credits
This course is the summation of the laboratory skills and techniques needed by the veterinary technician. Additionally, application of microbiological techniques utilized in veterinary practice is covered. This course also includes a hands-on review of all laboratory procedures.
