1.00 Credits
This course is the introduction to many of the aspects of the veterinary technician's career. Included will be information about ethics, career choices, occupational safety, human animal bonds, pet loss and euthanasia. Emphasis will be placed on an introduction to terminology and nomenclature within the profession.

This course will introduce concepts of hospital record maintenance, history taking, animal restraint, animal husbandry, syringe/needle identification and handling, and venipuncture procedures. Techniques emphasized will include initial physical examination, bathing, grooming, nail trimming, dermatological examination, applications of medications or treatments of eyes, ears, and skin, injection techniques, and venipuncture. This course will also introduce concepts of the necessary care of kennel animals. Sanitation of animal facilities, regulations that affect animal care, and safety in the veterinary workplace will be covered.

4.00 Credits
This course will prepare the student to be able to compare and identify anatomical structures and basic physiological body functions. Identifications of anatomical structures during dissection labs reinforce the students' understanding of physiological processes.

This course will introduce the regulations controlling the use of biologicals and pharmaceuticals in the management of animal disease. Additional topics will include the classifications of pharmaceuticals, rationale and precautions for therapeutic use, dosage calculations, and labeling, packaging and dispensing of veterinary products.

2.00 Credits
This course will introduce the student to the clinical laboratory, microscopes and other equipment, and basic laboratory procedures. Maintenance of the clinical laboratory will be emphasized. Techniques will be utilized for the identification of parasites of domestic animals.

3.00 Credits
This course is a continuation of the nursing skills and techniques begun in Veterinary Nursing Procedures I. Techniques covered will include restraint, behavior, complete physical examination, wound management, and nursing care procedures for small animals. Emphasis will be placed on venipuncture, blood vessel catheterization, fluid therapy, and dental care procedures. Introduced topics will include First Aid, CPR, toxicology, and oncology.

1.00 Credits
This course is a continuation of the concepts of kennel and animal care covered in Veterinary Nursing Procedures I. Additional techniques of management and husbandry will be emphasized including small animal behavior, vaccination and preventive care protocols, basic nutrition and supplementary feeding techniques. Dog and cat breeds will be introduced.

2.00 Credits
This course is a continuation of Anatomy/Physiology I. Students will study additional anatomical structures and physiological functions of domestic animals.

This course will introduce principles of the disease process. Diseases of public health significance as well as disease control and management practices will be emphasized. Diseases discussed will emphasize the awareness of the cause of disease, the effects of disease on the body, as well as disease control and management procedures. Diseases of companion animals will be emphasized.

3.00 Credits
This course is a continuation of the laboratory skills and techniques begun in Laboratory Techniques I. Techniques covered will include parasitology, hematology, blood collection, and sample handling. Students will be instructed in other diagnostic applications including serology.
