This course covers concepts, methods, and techniques of assisting in language arts instruction in a preschool, elementary, or special needs classroom. Special topics covered are language development, readiness, lesson plans, comprehension, spelling, listening, and story telling.

This course covers the social, physical, emotional and intellectual development of individuals with differing abilities. Special topics covered are learning disabilities, mental retardation, emotional disabilities, and communication disorders.

This course covers the characteristics and development of individuals with differing abilities. Special topics covered are physical disabilities, hearing impairment, visual impairment, gifted and communication disorders, and family involvement.

This course presents a study of the growth and developmental characteristics of infants from conception through preschool years. Included is an emphasis on stages of development with focus on physical, intellectual, social, and emotional growth and multi-culturalism.

This course covers the developmental study of children from middle childhood through adolescence. Special topics covered are overall development, organizing, and sustaining positive functioning of children and their families in a multi-cultural learning environment.

This course develops an understanding of supported employment and the role of inclusion of persons with disabilities in their communities. Topics included are the role of the job coach, time management, task analysis, and assessment. Practical work-site experience is included. Prerequisite: PHD 1140

This course will train students how to safely manage disruptive and assaultive behavior. Along with proven methods for defusing explosive behavior, students will learn how to handle most any type of threatening or challenging situation with minimal anxiety and increased confidence.

This course will explore agencies, organizations and services available in the human service profession. Students who are pursuing a career working with children, the aging population or individuals with varying abilities, will be introduced to resources specific to those needs.

Diversity is about empowering people. Diversity is understanding, valuing, and using differences in people. This course covers selfempowerment, decision making, conflict resolution, and interpersonal communications. The health careworkers role as a team member, roles and responsibilities and other human relation topics will also be discussed.
