WELD 1212: SMAW 5G Pipe
1.00 Credits
Northland Community and Technical College
This course will focus on welding pipe in the 5G position using the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) process. The 5G pipe position is when the pipe axis is horizontal, and the pipe is not rotated during welding. Students will perform welding in both the uphill and downhill positions with E6010, followed by E7018 vertical up. Prerequisite: Instructor approval.

WELD 1213: SMAW 6G Pipe
0.75 Credits
Northland Community and Technical College
This course will focus on what is considered by many in the welding industry to be the apex of Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) - welding pipe in the 6G position. Students will prepare and weld given pipe coupons in the 6G position per a given Welding Procedure Specification (WPS). The student will also visually inspect and destructively test each of their welds as described in the American Welding Society's (AWS) D1.1/D1.1M - Structural Welding Code - Steel codebook. Prerequisite: Instructor approval.
