In this course students will practice preparing and welding flat and horizontal groove welds with backing bars using the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) process. The primary welds in this course will be flat position (1G) v-groove and horizontal position (2G) bevel grooves. Students will learn the importance of proper fit-up and tack welding as well as proper bead placement and inter-pass cleaning. Visual and destructive testing will be used to evaluate student welds.
