3.00 credits (3.00 lec) This course explores developments in the technology, aesthetics, and cultural significance of photography from its origins to the present. Students will examine the works of major photographers and the relationships of those works to history, art and commerce. Fulfills MnTC Goal Areas 6 and 8.

4.00 credits (3.00 lec/1.00 lab) Fall 2008 only In this class you will receive a rigorous introduction to sync sound theory. Advanced camera, directing, lighting, editing, audio and other production techniques and theories are studied. Under the supervision of an experienced filmmaker, students will produce a film from preproduction through digital postproduction and will learn, as well as fill, all the basic responsibilities of the various crew positions. Both digital nonlinear and conventional film editing will be covered. Prerequisites: FILM 1030. Corequisites: FILM 2030.

3.00 credits (2.00 lec/1.00 lab) Fall 2008 only This course is a practical correlation for FILM 2010, emphasizing the organization of the film set, including preproduction preparation and the structure of crew members' responsibilities during filming and postproduction. Focus will be on filming and editing one or more short projects. Prerequisite: FILM 1030. Corequisite: FILM 2010.

4.00 credits (3.00 lec/1.00 lab) Spring 2008 only In this course, students will apply previously introduced aesthetic and technical knowledge of synchronous sound filmmaking to the production of an individual film. Advanced camera, lighting, directing, and editing techniques and styles are presented. Emphasis of the course is on personal vision and technical competence. Prerequisites: FILM 2010 and FILM 2030.

3.00 credits (3.00 lec) This course introduces students to business practices as they apply to the video, film, sound and music industries. Topics include: securing rights and copyrights, royalties, music and sound industries, financing, grant writing, budgeting, film and video proposals, business structures, small business operations, basic accounting, preproduction, scoring and mixing, positions in a crew, marketing, distribution, job interviews and employment possibilities. Prerequisites: FILM 1310.

2.00 Credits
2.00 credits (2.00 int) The internship provides second-year program students with an opportunity to work in a film facility. Internship placement will reflect the individual student's personal direction in filmmaking. Students must obtain internship coordinator's approval in advance of internship. NOTE: The internship is available only to degree students. Prerequisite: FILM 1030.

5.00 credits (5.00 lec) This course is the first in a sequence of courses providing an introduction to the language of France and other Frenchspeaking countries. Students will explore many aspects of the language through listening, reading, writing and speaking, which will help them understand and appreciate their own language from another point of view. Prerequisites: Placement into READ 0200 or placement into ESOL 0052 or completion of READ 0100 or ESOL 0042 with faculty recommendation into ESOL 0052; placement into ENGL 1110 or completion of ENGL 0900 or ESOL 0051.

2.00 credits (2.00 lec) This is an introductory French course designed for students who have had no previous instruction in French or for beginners who would like to brush up on their French. Students will practice useful and practical vocabulary of the spoken French language. They will become more sensitive to cultural differences and find it useful for business and travel. Taught in summer only. Prerequisites: Placement into READ 0200 or placement into ESOL 0052 or completion of READ 0100 or ESOL 0042 with faculty recommendation into ESOL 0052; placement into ENGL 1110 or completion of ENGL 0900 or ESOL 0051.
