Ethics, licensure and the 12 core functions of a counselor are discussed. The course focuses on gaining a working knowledge of predominant professional approaches to addiction. Historic approaches, Jellinek theory and the disease concept are critically reviewed. It also examines similarities of many types of harmful dependencies and stresses differences and parallels among various approaches.
