    3.00 credits (2.00 lec/1.00 lab) This course provides more advanced garment construction techniques. Students will learn to apply techniques by constructing a lined vest and a lined pant. Zipper application, interfacing function and other clothing techniques are explored. Prerequisites: Placement into READ 0200 or placement into ESOL 0052 or completion of READ 0100 or ESOL 0042 with faculty recommendation into ESOL 0052; placement into MATH 0700 or completion of MATH 0060.

    4.00 credits (2.00 lec/2.00 lab) Through lecture, demonstration and application, this course begins with basic garment alterations and progresses to major alterations. Customer service, fitting, workroom procedures, pressing, spotting and developing speed, as well as quality in workmanship, are covered. Students will participate in an alteration workshop for actual customers at the end of the semester. Prerequisites: Placement into READ 0200 or placement into ESOL 0052 or completion of READ 0100 or ESOL 0042 with faculty recommendation into ESOL 0052; placement into MATH 0700 or completion of MATH 0060.

    4.00 credits (2.00 lec/2.00 lab) Draping is the art of creating patterns by draping fabric on a dress form. Draping is the three-dimensional method that allows for visual analysis. Students will start with basic bodices and advance through bias draping, also learning the industrial pattern workroom process from design through production patterns. Prerequisite: APRL 1350.

    4.00 credits (2.00 lec/2.00 lab) This course provides training using standard industry software. Students will learn digitizing, grade-rule applications, and marker making, as well as plotting patterns and markers. They will apply flat pattern design skills to the computer and develop pattern pieces and models. Computer-aided design software allows students to create and alter patterns accurately and efficiently, as well as to grade patterns using imperial and metric measurements. Software is used not only in the apparel industry, but also in the furniture, woodworking and automotive industries. Prerequisites: Placement into READ 0200 or placement into ESOL 0052 or completion of READ 0100 or ESOL 0042 with faculty recommendation into ESOL 0052; placement into MATH 0700 or completion of MATH 0060; APRL 1350 or insructor approval. Corequisite: APRL 1800.

    4.00 credits (2.00 lec/2.00 lab) Students will advance through the product development and sewn-products manufacturing process as they design, spec and manufacture an apparel or soft goods item. Prototypes, sourcing and costing, operations analysis, and manufacturing operations including marker development, cutting, assembly, quality control, labeling requirements and packaging will be included. Prerequisites: Placement into READ 0200 or placement into ESOL 0052 or completion of READ 0100 or ESOL 0042 with faculty recommendation into ESOL 0052; placement into MATH 0700 or completion of MATH 0060; APRL 1000, APRL 1350. Corequisite: APRL 1800.

    2.00 credits (1.00 lec/1.00 lab) Specific and unique skills are developed as students construct a bridal or eveningwear garment. They will learn the shop process and expectations. Couture techniques will be emphasized. Prerequisites: Placement into READ 0200 or placement into ESOL 0052 or completion of READ 0100 or ESOL 0042 with faculty recommendation into ESOL 0052; placement into MATH 0700 or completion of MATH 0060; APRL 1000, APRL 1350 or instructor approval. Corequisite: APRL 1400.

    3.00 credits (2.00 lec/1.00 lab) This course deals with the story of leather by giving students insight into its origin and manufacturing process. Practical experience in making a leather garment and finishing techniques in fur will be included. Prerequisites: Placement into READ 0200 or placement into ESOL 0052 or completion of READ 0100 or ESOL 0042 with faculty recommendation into ESOL 0052; placement into MATH 0700 or completion of MATH 0060; APRL 1000, APRL 1350 or instructor approval.     5.00 credits (5.00 lec) Beginning Arabic introduces students to the classic, contemporary Arabic language, including the written alphabet and sound system. They will develop basic listening, speaking, reading and writing skills necessary to communicate about self, family and daily life, as well as basic survival needs. Students will also explore cultural aspects of the Arabic-speaking world, as well as various dialectical variations in the Arabic-speaking world. Prerequisites: Placement into READ 0200 or placement into ESOL 0052 or completion of READ 0100 or ESOL 0042 with faculty recommendation into ESOL 0052; placement into ENGL 1110 or completion of ENGL 0900 or ESOL 0051.

    5.00 credits (5.00 lec) This course builds upon the skills developed in ARAB 1000. Students will be able to initiate conversation and ask questions related to their needs, family, education and other basic communication idioms. Students will demonstrate these skills in speaking, writing, listening and reading. They will learn vital sociocultural aspects of oral communication and compose simple narratives in classic, contemporary Arabic. They will also learn regional dialectical variations of the language. Prerequisites: ARAB 1000; Placement into READ 0200 or placement into ESOL 0052 or completion of READ 0100 or ESOL 0042 with faculty recommendation into ESOL 0052; placement into ENGL 1110 or completion of ENGL 0900 or ESOL 0051.
