Introduces the student to the fundamentals of play production. This course explores the technical aspects involved in performance arts events. Instructs the basic principles for the actor: movement and relaxation exercises, vocal technique, improvisation, character analysis and development. Builds on the knowledge and skills acquired in THEA 181, concentrating on period style acting techniques. Students will be exposed to stage combat, poetry, sonnets, and classic theatrical pieces. Students will learn about scoring, scansion, and interruption of classic works. Students will do intensive work in movement, voice, and diction.

Techniques of improvisational performing for the beginning actor. This course includes spontaneous and planned exercises to evoke and inspire the actor's capacity for inventive imagination and sense of ensemble. Development and training of the actor's vocal and physical instrument for enhanced theatrical performance. Focus on proper breathing techniques, vocal production, and Linklater Alexander techniques.     Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C in THEA 220, ART 188 and ISYS 110 or computer competency. This course will provide an introduction to the application of computer hardware and software commonly used in theatre, including instruction and practice in Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, LightWrite, VectorWorks/AutoCAD Lite, Protools and Celtx.     Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C in READ 100 or satisfactory test score. This is an introduction to theatre arts of design, acting, direction and business through laboratory experience mixed with lecture. Students will work on construction and operating crews, handle business details under supervision and generally participate in the operation of college theatre. [Semesters Offered: Fall]

    Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C in THEA 220 and ART 188. This course will explore the fabrics, tools and techniques used in costume and soft goods construction for theatrical application. Hand sewing and machine sewing techniques, basic garment and project constructions, and theatrical decoration are emphasized. The role of the design assistant and communication process with the costume shop manager will be discussed. [Semesters Offered: Winter]

    Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C in THEA 220 and ART 188. This course explores the tools, techniques and terminology used in the craft of scene painting. Topics include the role of the scenic artist in the production process. Additional emphasis will be placed on faux painting techniques and trompe'l oeil painting. [Semesters Offered: Fall]
