This course will provide a three-day, intensive training institute in the Strategic Instruction Model® (SIM), developed by researchers and teachers at the Univeristy of Kansas Center for Research on Learning. This institute will introduce teachers to the foundations of SIM and the necessary instruction to implement the following research-based interventions to help students acquire the skills necessary to understand grade-level reading materials: a two-level reading strategy, a vocabulary strategy, and a two-level sentence writing strategy. Prerequisite: None. The SMR is SMC's very own literary magazine. THE SMR is a bi-annual publication which showcases poetry, fiction, non-fiction and photo- graphy from area artists. Join our class and automatically become a staff member of The SMR. Course activities include soliciting submissions, selecting submissions, editing and proofreading submissions, producing galleys, magazine layout and design, fundraising, event planning and event hosting.

This course makes pronunciation simple, with phonetic spellings for every word and phrase you learn. The course even includes audio, so you'll be able to hear and practice the language. You'll also learn cultural tips in each lesson that will make you more comfortable in a foreign setting.

The origin, a combined form, Spanish meaning of the root, and an example of non-medical everyday usage is provided for each root term. Root terms are combined with prefixes and suffixes as student's learning will culminate in the interpretation of several paragraphs of medical notes.
