SOCI 301: Sociological Theory

Students will develop an appreciation of the ways in which social theory both builds and departs from the traditions that precede it. Students will analyze representative works from major traditions of social thought.

SOCI 395: Senior Thesis

3 semester hours An integrated experience designed to test the student's ability to apply sociological theory and methodology. Students may choose from the following two options in fulfilling this requirement. Prerequisite: Senior status and a sociology major. Option I: In consultation with their sociology advisor, students will conduct an original research project on a sociological issue of interest to them and make an oral presentation of their findings. This option is strongly recommended for students contemplating graduate studies. Option II: In collaboration with their sociology advisor, students will assist in conducting research on a selected sociological issue. Students will be expected to pass a written examination regarding the research process and the studies findings.

1-6 semester hours An intensive study of a selected topic at varying levels of independence. In general, 40 hours of work are expected for each semester hour of credit.
