Significant concepts and theories are introduced along with the basics of social research. Topics include culture, social stratification, deviance, social change, and social institutions such as the family and education. Although the main emphasis is on contemporary American society, comparative and historical perspectives are included. It involves analysis of intimate and family relationships across the lifespan and in traditional and alternative family forms.
