3 credits quarters: S An introduction to the field of early childhood education. It is designed to acquaint students with history, models, current theories and practices, values, skills, and competencies within the early childhood education profession. The Washington State Skill Standards for Early Childhood Education Professionals form the basis from which ECED practices and individual knowledge and skills are analyzed. Of particular emphasis is self-assessment of learning styles, cultural competence, ECED ethics, and the knowledge base around which ECED is built, i.e., child development, observation, assessment, curriculum, environments, families, guidance, and inclusion.
