  • 2.00 Credits

This class begins with the study of aircraft instrument systems, position and warning systems. The student will learn basic aircraft instruments theory, operation, installation and trouble-shooting. Then, we move into communication and Navigation (avionics), where the student will study fundamentals of avionics, their function and the appropriate terminology, functions of communications equipment and navigation equipment. There will be approximately 30 lecture contact hours and 8 shop/lab hours. Prerequisites: AVTG 00 or AVTG 0 9.
  • 8.00 Credits

This class begins with details of the theory of air conditioning, heating, oxygen and cabin pressurization, placement of assemblies and interaction of the systems. This class continues with the theory and repair of hydraulic and pneumatic power systems, moving on to fuel systems including tanks, lines, pumps, valves, selectors, and quantity indicating systems. We will finish with Airframe inspection where the student will learn what it is to conduct an airframe inspection including the proper paperwork involved. Those who have completed all other airframe classes will finish this class with review for FAA written test. There will be approximately 5 lecture contact hours and 77 shop/lab hours. Prerequisites: AVTG 00 or AVTG 0 9.
  • 1.00 Credits

Student orientation, facility familiarization, housekeeping procedures, and safety. Clock hours: 9 lecture, 5 shop; prerequisite: None. (Not required if Aviation General (AVTG 0 9) is the first class taken in the Aviation Technology classes.)
  • 9.00 Credits

This course includes introduction to aviation, a review of basic math including algebraic operations, fractions, exponents, roots, and geometric figures. Basic physics review in such areas as simple machines, heat dynamics, fluid and gas laws, work and power. Students will learn to perform weight and balance computations as well as weigh an aircraft. The students will learn concepts of basic electricity such as how to analyze AC and DC circuits and how to read schematics. The student will also learn how to use test equipment to measure voltage, current and resistance. The student will be introduced to the use of technical literature, FAA publications, forms and records, and Federal Regulations pertaining to maintenance personnel. There will be approximately 43 contact hours in lecture and 09 hours in the labs/shop. Prerequisites: None.
  • 8.00 Credits

The student will study five different subject areas as well as review and prepare for their FAA written test. First we will cover aircraft drawings where the student will learn to use drawings, blueprints (including drawing orthographic projections), schematics, graphs, charts and pictorial representations. The student will sketch simulated repairs and alterations. Study fluid lines and fittings where after the lecture portion of this subject the student will fabricate, install and test both rigid and flexible lines. Learn about corrosion and the proper way to prevent, clean, treat and control corrosion. The fourth area of study in this class will be materials and process where the student will be covering such areas as proper use of hand tools, hardware, heat treatment, and non-destructive testing. The student will get to perform such operations asMag-Particle, eddie current, dye penetrate, and ultra sound. The last subject area of study is ground operations and servicing. Here the students will learn the proper procedures for fueling, moving, securing aircraft as well as shop safety. The final part of this class is the review portion for the FAA test for those students that have completed both general classes. There will be approximately 96 contact lecture hours and 4 shop/lab hours. Prerequisites: AVTG 00 or AVTG 0 9.
  • 11.00 Credits

This class begins with the study of the theory and operation of various propellers and their systems, moving on to lubrication and cooling systems where the student will identify and select the proper lubricants, make adjustments to oil pressure relief valves, inspect lubrication and cooling systems. Our study will explore the induction and exhaust system including such items as ice and rain control, carb. heat, heat exchangers, superchargers, thrust reversers, etc. After these concepts are mastered, we will move on to engine instrument systems and fire protection systems which will include both detection and extinguishing systems. The student will study the concepts of engine ignition and starting. The student will learn the theory of these systems before they service and repair these systems. Complete this class with engine electrical and APU, where we study both reciprocating and turbine engine electrical systems, such as power generation, etc. There are approximately 27 lecture contact hours and 3 shop/lab hours. Prerequisites: AVTG 00 and AVTG 0 9.
  • 6.00 Credits

The student will begin by learning the theory of both reciprocating and turbine engine fuel metering systems such as carburetors, injectors, pumps, etc. before going to the shop to demonstrate what they have learned. After they have mastered fuel systems, the student will finish this class by learning and performing an airworthiness inspection on an engine including all required paperwork. For the students that have completed all of the other Powerplant subjects, they will complete their review for the FAA written test. This class includes approximately 8 contact lecture hours and 57 shop/lab hours. Prerequisites: AVTG 00 or AVTG 0 9.
  • 7.00 Credits

The student will study the theory and operation of reciprocating engines, and perform a simulated overhaul (overhaul without all new parts). There are approximately 64 lecture hours and 34 shop/lab hours. Prerequisite: AVTG 00 or AVTG 0 9. AVTP 1045 Aviation Powerplant Turbines - (5 Credit Hours). The student will learn the theory and operation of a turbine engine, and perform a hot section inspection on a turbine engine. This course includes approximately 56 contact lecture hours and 00 shop/lab hours. Prerequisites: AVTG 00 or AVTG 0 9.
