Topics include: professional qualifications, professionalism, supervised planning, application of guidance techniques, and classroom management.

Additional requirements: minimum age of 21, high school diploma or GED. Provides training in planning, implementation, and maintenance of an effective early childhood program. Topics include: organization, mission, philosophy, goals and history of a program; types of programs; laws, rules, regulations accreditation and program evaluation; needs assessment; administrative roles and board of directors; marketing, public and community relations, grouping, enrollment and retention; working with parents; professionalism and work ethics; and time and stress management.

Additional requirements: minimum age of 21, high school diploma or GED. Provides training in early childhood facilities management. Topics include: space management, money management, and program, equipment and supplies management.

Additional requirements: minimum age of 21, high school diploma or GED. Provides training in personnel management in early childhood settings. Topics include: staff records; communication; personnel planning; personnel policies; managing payroll, recruitment, selection, interviewing, hiring, motivating, firing, and staff retention; staff scheduling; staff development; providing guidance and supervision; conflict resolution; and staff evaluation.

Students will be placed in an approved setting(s) throughout the quarter where planning, implementing, observing, and evaluating activities are the focus of their involvement. An evaluation procedure will be used by the designee of the college and the on-site supervisor to critique the student's performance on the job. Topics include: problem solving, use of proper interpersonal skills, application of developmental appropriate practices, professional development, and resource file (portfolio) assessment.

    Prerequisites: ECE diploma program admission level English, reading, and math competency required; Hepatitis B vaccinations (or signed declination statement); TB test; criminal background check Provides the student with information about preparing appropriate environments and planning and implementing activities for school-age children and youth. This course includes 30 hours of lab, during which the student will observe the concepts learned in class. Topics include: space design, varied choices and program activities to promote interest in athletics/physical development, community involvement, cultural arts, literacy, math, science and technology, and positive social relationships.

    Prerequisites: Program admission (degree) English and Math Provides a description and analysis of economic operations in contemporary society. Emphasis is placed on developing an understanding of economic concepts and policies as they apply to everyday life. Topics include: basic economic principles, economic forces and indicators, capital and labor, price, competition, and monopoly, money and banking, government expenditures (federal and local), fluctuations in production, employment and income, and the United States economy in perspective.

    Prerequisites: Program admission (degree) English and Math Provides a description and analysis of macroeconomic operations in our contemporary society. Emphasis is placed on developing an understanding of macroeconomic concepts and policies. Topics include: basic economic principles, function of the Federal Reserve Bank, demand and supply, the nature of equilibrium, price theory, production possibilities curve, fundamentals of competitive advantage in free markets, major market types such as oligopoly and monopoly, marginal concepts, macroeconomic goals, the economic model, employment and unemployment, fiscal and monetary policy, multipliers, e-commerce, networking environments and new technology innovation.

    Prerequisites: Program admission (degree) English and Math Provides microeconomic concepts and their application in our high technology society. Topics include: basic economic principles, theory of the firm, and introduction to competitive market theory, global technology change, price theory and price as a competitive strategy, production and output analysis, research and development contribution, flexible exchange rates, global monopoly and oligopoly, resource markets, revenue and cost analysis, and case studies dealing with international economic competition.
