Offers basic music composition principles, including melody, harmony, score analysis, song and chorale form. Includes an introduction to computer music software, prescribed composition assignments and a semester project. Examines application of composing skills in a church music setting, with an emphasis on musical/score arranging. Pre-requisites: MUSI 120, 220, or instructor permission

A comprehensive understanding of basic and foundational choral and instrumental conducting techniques, including vocal techniques and warm-ups, and critical listening skill development. Conducting in basic time signatures and irregular meters. Basic score preparation and concert programming will be discussed and applied. Students required to conduct the Trinity Lutheran College Choir, or work with other choral groups in rehearsal preparation, as a part of this course. Prerequisites: MUSI 110, 120, 210, 220, or instructor permission

Builds upon the skills taught in Conducting I. Critical listening and corrective skills and techniques. Further development of personal conducting techniques and skills. in class and also within a choir context. In depth vital score preparation, error detection, and gesture study. Further development of concert choir programming and exploration of different types and styles of music and performance practice techniques. Prerequisites: MUSI 340, or instructor permission

Students may audition to be a part of the Worship Band. The Worship Band represents Trinity Lutheran College at special events, during Chapels, and in community outreach for the college. Students may use the credit toward Service Learning Practicum requirements.

The Touring Ensemble is an auditioned group of singers that represents Trinity Lutheran College in concerts, special events, schools, churches, and community functions. Two tours per year in addition to other performing activities. The group performs a variety of musical styles and genres.

2.00 Credits
Spring semester, Trinity Lutheran College puts on a musical theatre presentation during parent's weekend. Students may audition for a part in the musical, or participate in some aspect of the musical presentation. Hands-on understanding of musical theatre.
