Acceptance into the Actor Training Program required. Introduces singing/acting performance techniques through practical application and repertoire study. Students study how to learn material, develop a process to bring a song to performance level, and explore the musical theatre canon through sight-singing, work-shopping, and performing. Prerequisites: Admission to Actor Training Program Emphasis OR Instructor Consent.

This course is an individual study of applied voice, vocal literature, musical styles and performance focusing specifically on techniques for musical theatre singing. Weekly private lessons nurture the development of musical theatre students and are a vital part of the course of study. Monthly mastery classes provide solo performance opportunities in a group forum. A minimum of five clock-hours per week of practice outside of private instruction is required. This course may be repeated up to four times. Prerequisites: Admission to Musical Theatre Program Emphasis OR Instructor Consent

This course is the first class in a series of two in which students learn fundamentals of voice and speech as they pertain to Musical Theatre. In this first course, students will study the anatomy, physiology, and care of the voice in an effort to provide the student with a greater understanding of the singing process and promote lifelong vocal health. Prerequisites: "C" or better in THEA 2011 OR Instructor Consent.

Admittance to this is course is by audition only. This course is the first class in a year-long ensemble commitment in which students participate as members of the Musical Theatre Ensemble (MTE). Students perform in events, showcases, and as needed by the department. Learning how to sing in parts, audition for solo work, convey text, and execute ensemble choreography is the main focus of this course. The instructor leads the ensemble in building a musical review of musical theatre songs. Prerequisites: 'C' or better in THEA 1715 OR Instructor Consent

Students explore both expressive and technical voice work through movement-based modalities, open-ended explorations, and structured vocal progressions. Emphasis is placed on students becoming reflective practitioners who are aware of and take active ownership over their physical instrument in relation to effective vocal expression and the demands of theatrical storytelling. Prerequisites: "C" or better in THEA 1230 OR Instructor Consent.

Students continue their exploration of both expressive and technical voice work. Emphasis is placed on the application of technique and vocal expression to challenging text in service of being clearly heard, understood, and felt by their audience. Prerequisites: "C" or better in THEA 2060 OR Instructor Consent.
