ART 4745: Advanced Digital Photo

Digital Technology has affected every aspect of the photographic process. Historically, new tools have lead to new forms of expression. Using tools learned in the preceding classes, students will explore visual issues unique to digital photography. Students will develop their personal vision and explore extended possibilities of the medium through a series of projects based on questions about the nature of contemporary photography. This class also explores technologies (such as video and 3D computer modeling ) that are new to contemporary fine arts photography. This class assumes that students are well grounded in technical skills and are prepared to use digital tools to explore aesthetic issues and advanced concepts. Prerequisites: "C-" or better in ART 4740.

Students will work on producing a finished body of work, ready for exhibition or graduate program application. Students? projects will be reviewed in individual and group critiques. Members of the class must be prepared to work independently, have well formulated ideas, and participated in class discussions. This course is also structured to help students with professional practices such as writing an artist statement, building a resume, contacting a gallery, and applying for graduate school. Students will also be given readings for discussions on contemporary critical theory as it pertains to photography. There will be in-class writing assignments on the readings. Prerequisites: Emphasis in Photography

Reputable design studios, advertising agencies, and in-house design departments are asked by the graphic design faculty to participate. Internship placement is based upon the students' qualifications. These experiences are supplemented with course work addressing issues such as designer/client relationships, tax & legal issues, contract development and all practices associated with the business of design. Prerequisites: Department Consent AND Emphasis in Graphic Design.
