    A beginning course with a concentration in the development of technical skills which are specific to jewelry and nonferrous metals. Projects are developed to introduce and develop student skills in a variety of tools and processes. The course provides instruction in small metals fabrication, centrifugal casting, repousse, and enameling. Students develop projects to introduce and develop skills in a variety of tools and processes. Background on the historical art contexts in which these materials and methods have come to importance will be presented in lectures and discussions.     Specially designed course offered once a year. The course is commonly co-taught with faculty from diverse disciplines and focuses on one specialized aspect of art making. Specialized techniques, site specific environmental installations, architectural designs, community, and social projects are common directives. Prerequisites: "C-" or better in ART 3410 OR Instructor Consent.

    The course introduces students to the practices and principles of art education. Students examine: the historical and philosophical foundations of art education; current issues in art education; theories of art education; the major pedagogical approaches to art education; and human development and the arts. The course provides students with an understanding of art education as an important stand-alone discipline as well as a discipline that can be integrated across the curriculum.

    This course provides students with an opportunity to explore community-based art education through the theoretical exploration and practical application of art that creates community while affecting positive change. Students explore the aesthetic, historical, political and sociocultural aspects of community-based art education and work collaboratively with other students and community members to plan and implement a community-based art work. Students in the course gain experience planning, implementing and evaluation innovative arts programming.

    This course explores the practical application of contemporary color theories, focusing on the interaction and relativity of color. Students will develop a working color vocabulary through a series of projects illustrating the seven color contrasts. Additionally, the course offers opportunities to explore the psychological aspects of color, personal preference, and historical and symbolic meanings of color. Students will gain a basic and practical understanding of the principles of design, mixing color, and handling of paint and art materials. Prerequisites: 'C-' or better in (ART 2201 AND 2202 AND 2203 AND 2204 AND 2205 AND 2206 AND 2207 AND 2208 AND 2400) OR (ART 2200 AND 2250 AND 2400)

    An introductory exploration into the basic design and hand skills necessary for contemporary typography and graphic design. The studio course addresses visual problem-solving both on and off the computer. Prerequisites: "C" or better in (ART(2201 AND 2202 AND 2203 AND 2204 AND 2205 AND 2206 AND 2207 AND 2208 AND 2400) OR ART(2200 AND 2250 AND 2300 AND 2350 AND 2400)) AND Emphasis in Graphic Design. Corequisites: ART 3630.

    This is an introductory course for all students interested in learning more about the craft of advertising strategies. Building and promoting brands, in collaboration with strategic use of media platforms, is a result of the development of ideas that effectively communicate. This class explores the basics of communicating visually with words and images through the study of effective storytelling. Students in the course learn the basics of conceptual thinking through the development of ideation skills and engagement in collaborative brainstorming.
