The course will synthesize traditional painting practices with contemporary digital and trans-media practices. It will introduce BFA painting majors to strategies and methods for the integration of both digital and analogue technologies into fine art visual research. The course will promote creative exploration with both the utilitarian and unique expressive possibilities of technological resources. This will include the major visual software programs. A strong emphasis will be placed on students' creative processes and the development of a personal portfolio showcasing this style of work. Prerequisites: Full Major status in BFA Studio Art OR "C-" or better in (ART 2201 AND ART 2202 AND ART 2203 AND ART 2204 AND ART 2205 AND ART 2206 AND ART 2207 AND ART 2208)

This course introduces students to techniques, materials, and conceptual components of traditional and modern Eastern and Western watercolor. Students will investigate formal and conceptual elements of water-based paint medium through use of Eastern and Western materials, such as Asian Xuan paper, Chinese Mo, gouache, and acrylic ink. Within remix culture context, students will create new experimental painting techniques that support their concepts. Different cultural and artistic perspectives will be addressed in critiques.

This course will focus on creating installations through the utilization of both traditional and non-traditional approaches to drawing. Throughout the semester a variety of projects will examine contemporary interpretations of drawing and it's uses within the realm of installation art. Prerequisites: 'C-' or better in ART 2400 AND (ART 2201 AND 2202 AND 2203 AND 2204 AND 2205 AND 2206 AND 2207 AND 2208) OR (ART 2200 AND ART 2250) OR Successful completion of Graphic Design first-year advancement OR Instructor Consent

Study of the historical diversity of ceramics, style, and form, from 6000 BCE to the present. Includes the Far East, Islam, Europe, Pre- and Post-Columbian, as well as contemporary directions. The course is designed to give an overview of the working, glazing, and firing of stoneware ceramics. Through the construction of various hand-built objects, demonstrations, lectures, slides, and critiques, students are introduced to the world of contemporary hand-built ceramics. Investigations into sculptural form, scale, and glazing using personally formulated clay bodies and glazes. Exploration of advanced sculptural work including various handbuilding and wheel techniques. Prerequisites: "C-" or better in ART 3210.

A beginning course in wheelthrown pottery designed to develop fundamental skills in throwing, surface decoration, glazing stoneware, and the work rhythms of the pottery studio. Exploration of larger more complex wheelthrown forms in stoneware or porcelain. Development of visual insight in form and surface relationships. Prerequisites: "C-" or better in ART 3220.

Introduction to and use of low-fire clays, decorating techniques, and firing. Includes exploration of underglaze, china paint, lusters, and ceramic decals on earthenware and stoneware clay. Students learn to fire ware in various electric kilns. Prerequisites: "C-" or better in (ART 3210 AND ART 3220) OR Instructor Consent.

Design construction and use of molds, their models and castings. Castings are incorporated into or used as personal form ideas. This course is directed toward the studio artist. Prerequisites: 'C-' or better in ART 2208 OR Instructor Consent
