Prerequisite: 6311, 6312, EDT 6305 or 6310. Supervised internship in the community college. Students engage in 75 hours of experiences and successful completion will be noted on the student's record by a grade of "S," indicatinhours credit with no points. Summer. Course fee $30.

Development of energy economics concepts and integration of those concepts into pre-college curriculum through demonstrations of teaching techniques. Consult instructor for information. Same as ECON 5595.

Prerequisite: departmental permission, admission to post-baccalaureate/alternative certification program, employment by an accredited school district. Students are required to enroll in two internships for a minimum required credit of six semester hours. The intern will be required to perform as teacher of record in an accredited school at the appropriate level under supervision of a mentor and a University supervisor. Successful completion will be noted on the student's record by the grade of "S," indicating three hours credit with nograde points. Fall, spring.

Improvement of reading and study skills, including vocabulary, comprehension and speed of reading for University students at all levels. May not be counted toward a degree or grade points. Techniques and methods of teaching reading through use of children's literature. Emphasis on genres, author and illustrator studies, multicultural and international publications, and historical and contemporary publishing trends. Criteria for building an equitable and balanced collection for home, classroom and library. Fall, spring, summer.

Surveys of current theories of reading and developmental reading instruction, including emergent literacy, word identification, comprehension and study skills, models of reading. Fall, spring, summer.

Actual problems relating to reading education. To be taken only after prearrangement with a faculty member and approval of department head. May be repeated once when topics vary. Fall, spring, summer.

Prerequisite: 3301, 3302. Diverse aspects of language and culture which influence the teaching-learning process. Emphasis on techniques and strategies for teaching English to speakers of other languages of diverse backgrounds and abilities; content and materials/resources needed to understand and teach transitional literacy development to linguistically and culturally diverse students. Fall, spring, summer. Courses in summer or intersession may include an optional travel component at the expense of the student.

Prerequisite: 3302 or 4306; admission to teacher education. Basic principles of evaluation applied to reading performance with survey of day-to-day procedures and materials which classroom teachers can use in determining and meeting reading needs of children. Fall, spring, summer.
