Prerequisite: A grade of C or better in RSPT 2414, RSPT 2425, and RSPT 2460. An introduction to areas of interest in which the respiratory therapist may find application and/or employment. The depth of instruction will provide the indications, expected outcomes, hazards and methods for hyperbaric oxygen (HBO), extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), nitric oxide (NO), sleep studies, nutritional assessment, metabolic monitoring, exercise/stress testing, and electroencephalograms. Oral presentations and written research papers are required using word processing, Internet research, e-mail, and multimedia software.

Prerequisite: A grade of C or better in RSPT 1431, RSPT 2405, and RSPT 1461. A discussion of pathogenesis, pathology, diagnosis, history, prognosis, manifestations, treatment, and detection of cardiopulmonary diseases. This course will emphasize the various obstructive lung diseases.

Prerequisite: A grade of C or better in RSPT 2414, RSPT 2425, and RSPT 2460. The theory and history of clinical simulation examinations. Topics include the construction types, scoring, and mechanics of taking the exam, along with practice in taking both written and computerized simulations, and basic concepts of computer usage. Students will be required to pass both the entrylevel self-assessment examination, and written registry and clinical simulation self-assessment examinations. The use of a microcomputer for application software is required.

Prerequisite: A grade of C or better in RSPT 1460, RSPT 1461, RSPT 1163, and RSPT 2460. Course must be taken concurrently with RSPT 2353. A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional.

Prerequisite: A grade of C or better in RSPT 2414, RSPT 2425, and RSPT 2460. A study of acute care, monitoring, and management as applied to the neonatal and pediatric patient. The use of a microcomputer for application software is required.

Prerequisite: A grade of C or better in RSPT 1429 and RSPT 1460. Course must be taken concurrently with RSPT 1431 and RSPT 1461. The theories and techniques involved in pulmonary function testing diagnostics with emphasis on blood gas theory and analysis, quality control, oximetry, and capnography. Calculations, with practice problems, of pulmonary function and blood gas values will be included. Students will prepare an abstract on a current topic related to the field of respiratory care using word processing, Internet research, and e-mail.

Prerequisite: A grade of C or better in RSPT 1431, RSPT 2405, and RSPT 1461. Course must be taken concurrently with RSPT 2460. Preparation to conduct therapeutic procedures to achieve adequate spontaneous and artificial ventilation, with emphasis on ventilator classification, methods, principles, and operational characteristics. Also, included are the indications, complications, and physiologic effects/principles of mechanical ventilation. The use of a microcomputer for application software is required.

Prerequisite: A grade of C or better in RSPT 1431, RSPT 2405, and RSPT 1461. Course must be taken concurrently with RSPT 2460 A study of physical, radiological, hemodynamic, laboratory, nutritional, and cardiopulmonary diagnostic assessment of the pulmonary patient. Course will emphasize restrictive lung diseases, neuromuscular and cardiac diseases. The use of a microcomputer for application software is required.
