Prerequisite: Consent of instructor A comprehensive study of the electrical conduction system of the heart, electrophysiology, and characteristics of the common atrial, junctional and ventricular dysrhythmias, including atrioventricular blocks and 12-lead EKG interpretation.

Prerequisite: Admission to the Respiratory Care Program An introduction to the anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular, renal, and pulmonary systems. This course includes the terminology used in respiratory physiology. Students will prepare an abstract on a current topic related to the field of respiratory care using word processing, Internet research, and e-mail.

Prerequisite: Admission to the Respiratory Care program Provides a foundation for the development of knowledge and skills for respiratory care including history, medical terms/symbols, medical/legal, infection control, vital signs, physical assessment, chest x-ray interpretation, medical gas therapy, oxygen analyzers, and humidity/aerosol therapy. Calculations, with practice problems of cylinder contents, oxygen delivery, oxygen/air entrainment ratios, gas density, and the metric system will be included. The use of a microcomputer for application software is required.

Prerequisite: A grade of C or better in RSPT 1429 and RSPT 1460. Course must be taken concurrently with RSPT 2405 and RSPT 1461. Provides a foundation for the development of knowledge and skills for respiratory care including lung expansion therapy, postural drainage and percussion, artificial airways, manual resuscitation devices, suctioning, pulse oximetry, bedside spiromentry, arterial sampling techniques and blood gas analysis and interpretation. The use of a microcomputer for application software is required.

Instruction in the investigation, organization, and presentation of the material, including preparation of questions for group discussion. An oral presentation and written research paper is required using word processing, Internet research, e-mail, and multimedia software.

Prerequisite: Consent of instructor A comprehensive course designed to develop the cognitive and psychomotor skills necessary for resuscitation of the infant and child. Strategies for preventing cardiopulmonary arrest and identification of high-risk infants and children will be presented.
