This course is designed to assist students placed in Foundations of Academic Writing I based on THEA writing scores or comparable scores on an alternative to THEA to develop basic essay writing skills in preparation for college level writing. Emphasis is placed on clear and correct expression in writing and speaking and on foundational work in the principles of grammar, punctuation, sentence formation, and paragraphing. A sentence to paragraph concept is presented early in the course with an introduction to essay format and modes of academic writing by the end of the semester. This course does not count toward graduation from Victoria College.

Prerequisite: Passing ENGL 0300 with a C or better or placement based on THEA writing scores or comparable scores on an alternative to THEA test. This course is designed to assist students placed in Foundations of Academic Writing II based on THEA (or comparable) writing scores or who made a C or better in Foundations of Academic Writing I. Students will develop and expand essay writing skills in preparation for college level writing. Emphasis is placed on effective sentence and paragraph construction and incorporation of those concepts into proper academic essay format. Improvement of writing and critical thinking skills will be stressed through class exercises and extensive writing practice. Preparation for writing in college level courses, including academic style and presentation, will be emphasized in the final fourth of the course. This course does not count toward graduation from Victoria College.

Prerequisite: Texas Success Initiative complete in Reading and Writing. Emphasis on expository writing by analysis of essays in adopted texts. Compositions stress organization, content, style, and mechanical correctness. One essay will include cited work using MLA. Prerequisite: A grade of C or better in ENGL 1301 or permission of the instructor. ENGL 2307 is a workshop course, concentrating on skills, group activities, and peer/instructor critique sessions, designed to increase students' ability in producing original creative writing. Students will have experience reading and writing in multiple genres-fiction, creative non-fiction, drama, and poetry. In addition to creating, revising, and editing to improve individual pieces, students will explore various techniques for queries, publishing formats, and resources/writing tools (written and electronic).
