    Prerequisite: Admission into the EMSP degree track or permission of the instructor. Topics address recently identified current events, skills, knowledge, and/or attitudes and behaviors pertinent to the technology or occupation and relevant to the professional development of the student. The student researches new/upcoming issues and prepares written and oral presentations. The student is evaluated on presentation as well as content.

    Prerequisite: Admission into the EMSP certificate or degree program An exploration of the foundations necessary for mastery of the advanced topics of clinical practice out of the hospital. Upon completion of this course, the student will describe and list the roles and responsibilities of a advanced EMS personnel within the EMS system; apply the basic concepts of development, pathophysiology and pharmacology to assessment and management of emergency patients; be able to properly administer medications;communicate effectively with patients; and understand the medical/legal and ethical issues relating to EMS practice as well as the issues impacting the well-being of the paramedic. Course content is based on the U.S. Department of Transportation National Standard Curriculum.

    Prerequisite: BLS for Healthcare Provider or Professional Rescuer Certification Corequisite: EMSP 116(0) Introduction to the level of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Includes all the skills necessary to provide emergency medical care at a basic life support level with an ambulance service or other specialized services. Upon completion of this course, the student will demonstrate a working knowledge of clinical information and related topics relevant to the practice of pre-hospital emergency medical care of the EMT-Basic level; demonstrate the ability to competently perform all applicable skills; and exhibit attitudes and behavior consistent with the ethics and professionalism expected of the EMT-Basic. Course content is based on the U.S. Department of Transportation National Standard Curriculum.

    Pre/Corequisites: EMSP 1355, 1356, 1438, 2330, 2338, 2343, & 2444 The capstone course of the EMSP program. Designed to provide for teaching and evaluating comprehensive, assessment-based patient care management. Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to integrate pathophysiological principles and assessment findings to formulate a field impression; and implement a treatment plan for patients with common complaints.

    Pre/Corequisites: EMSP 2330, 2434 & 2444 A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. At the completion of this course, the paramedic student will be able to integrate pathophysiological principles and assessment findings to analyze differential diagnoses and develop, implement and evaluate care plans for patients with respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, endocrine, allergic/anaphylactic, gastroenterologic, urologic, toxic exposure, hematopoietic, infectious/communicable disease, behavioral, and gynecological emergencies; normal and abnormal labor; and neonatal, pediatric, geriatric, abuse/assault, psychosocial, and chronic care emergencies; and communicate and document all pertinent information.

    Prerequisites: EMSP 1261 & 2262 A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. At the completion of this course, the paramedic student will be able to manage the scene of an emergency; perform a comprehensive history and physical exam; integrate patho-physiological principles and assessment findings to analyze differential diagnoses and develop, implement and evaluate care plans within the scope of practice authorized by medical control; and communicate and document all pertinent information.

    Prerequisites: EMSP 1356 & 1438 A detailed study of the knowledge and skills necessary to reach competence in the assessment and management of ill or injured patients in nontraditional populations. Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to integrate pathophysiological principles and assessment findings to formulate a field impression and implement a treatment plan for neonatal, pediatric, and geriatric patients, diverse patients, and chronically ill patients.

    Prerequisite: Admission into the EMSP certificate or degree program A detailed study of the knowledge and skills necessary to safely manage the scene of an emergency. Upon completion of this unit, the student will be able to safely manage medical incidents, rescue situations, hazardous materials and crime scenes.
  • 4.00 Credits

    Prerequisites: EMSP 1356 & 1438 A detailed study of the knowledge and skills necessary to reach competence in the assessment and management of patients with medical emergencies. Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to integrate pathophysiological principles and assessment findings to formulate a field impression and implement a treatment plan for the medical patient.
  • 4.00 Credits

    Prerequisites: EMSP 1356 & 1438 A detailed study of the knowledge and skills necessary to reach competence in the assessment and management of patients with cardiac emergencies. Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to integrate pathophysiological principles and assessment findings to formulate a field impression; and implement a treatment plan for the cardiac patient.
