Earl y development of oral language, phonological and phonemic awareness, the alphabetic principle, and writing will be explored in this course. Students will tutor young children in these areas based multi-sensory, developmentally appropriate, and English as a second language principles. Field experience required. Lec 3, Cr 3.

Students plan and teach research-based lessons using reading, writing, and multicultural children's literature across the curriculum. Part icipants will learn the basic principles of assessment and use a variety of literacy assessment practices to plan and implement literacy instruction for young ESL learners.
