This is a Texas Common Course Number. This is the first semester of academic transfer Chinese. This course is an introductory course intended for students with little or no knowledge of the language. Its aim is to present essential vocabulary and grammar, and to develop the pronunciation, listening, reading, and writing skills necessary for basic communication and comprehension. Customs and cultural insights are also presented. This course is cross-listed as CHIN 1311, which is also used in Study Abroad programs. This is a Texas Common Course Number. Prerequisite: CHIN 1411 or the equivalent or demonstrated competence approved by the instructor. This is the second semester of academic transfer Chinese. This course continues the oral practice, reading, writing, grammar and cultural studies begun in CHIN 1411. Students are expected to acquire a substantial amount of vocabulary and begin to deal with idiomatic language and more advanced syntax. This course is cross-listed as CHIN 1312, which is used only in Study Abroad programs. Students may register for either CHIN 1312 or CHIN 1412 but may receive credit for only one of the two. This is a WECM Course Number. This course is a study of the techniques and procedures used by police officers on patrol. Includes controlled substance identification, handling abnormal persons, traffic collision investigation, note taking and report writing, vehicle operation, traffic direction, crowd control, and jail operations. This is a WECM Course Number. This course is a study of laws that are directly related to police field work. Topics include traffic, intoxicated driver, Penal Code, elements of crimes, the Family Code, Alcoholic Beverage Code, and civil liability. (3 Lec., 4 Lab.)

This is a WECM Course Number. This course includes the demonstration and practice of the skills expected of a police officer. Topics include patrol, traffic stops, use of force, mechanics of arrest, firearms safety and emergency medical care. (4 Lec., 4 Lab.)

This is a WECM Course Number. Introduction to the field of criminalistics. Topics include the application of scientific and technical methods in the investigation of crime including location, identification, and handling of evidence for scientific analysis. (3 Lec.)

This is a WECM Course Number. Career-related activities encountered in the student's area of specialization are offered through a cooperative agreement between the college, employer and student. Under supervision of the college and the employer, the student combines classroom learning with work experience. Directly related to a specific discipline, specific learning objectives guide the student through work experience. The course may be repeated if topics and learning outcomes vary. (1 Lec., 15 Ext.)
