(3-0) 3 hours A compensatory course designed to improve basic thinking and writing skills. Emphasizes essay development and use of conventional English. Requires essays composed in response to various prompts. Prepares student for THEA and other state-approved alternate tests as well as ENGL 1301. The student must attain a "C" or better in this course or passthe English portion of the THEA or other state-approved alternate tests before enrolling in ENGL 1301. Credit probably not transferable. Does not satisfy requirements for any degree plan at Odessa College. Lab fee required for ENGL 0370 WP (Word Processing). (SCANS 2, 9) Prerequisite: None. Corequisite: Students who have not passed the reading section of THEA or the state-approved alternate tests must enroll in a reading class.

(3-0) 3 hours Consists of reading and writing directions, proposals, abstracts, summaries, letters and other report forms commonly used in business and industry. Gives attention to style, paragraphing, organization, mechanics, and usage as they apply to technical writing. Students should check with universities regarding course transferability. Lab fee required for ENGL 1312 (Word Processing). (SCANS 2, 9, 11) Prerequisite: ENGL 0370 passed with a "C"or better or a satisfactory placement score.

(3-0) 3 hours Introduces the study and writing of fiction and poetry. Presents contemporary writers, market analysis and preparation and submission of manuscripts for publication. An elective course that will not substitute for any required English course in any associate degree program. May be repeated for credit. Will transfer, perhaps, in selected majors at senior institutions. (SCANS 2, 9) Prerequisite: ENGL 1302 or consent of the instructor.
