5 hours Advanced concepts of instruction in a cosmetology program. Topics include demonstration, development and implementation of advanced evaluation and assessment techniques. The student will practice instructional skills; develop assessment and evaluation techniques that promote student learning; and implement evaluation tools to measure student outcome. (SCANS 1, 2, 6, 9) Prerequisite: Valid Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation license and high school diploma or GED.

5 hours An overview of the objectives required by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation Instructor Examination. The student will demonstrate the skills required for the completion of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation curriculum including the management of a lab/clinic in a cosmetology program and classroom management skills. (SCANS 1, 2, 8, 10) Prerequisite: Valid Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation license and high school diploma or GED.

2 hours Fundamentals of air cooled engines including repair and testing. Engines could be diesel or gasoline, but are used to power the refrigeration unit on delivery vehicles or trailers. Lab fee required. (SCANS 2, 5, 6, 11) Prerequisite: Consent of department chair or instructor.

(2-4) 3 hours In-depth coverage of the fuel injector pumps and injection systems with emphasis on rebuilding and calibration. Emphasizes on fuel and emissions as related to tune-up procedures. The student will use computerized test equipment to evaluate emissions from exhaust systems. The student will recognize problems and devise plans for correction. Students will allocate time while working and communicating with each member in their lab team on the exercise and using technical manuals. The students will acquire new knowledge, skills and improve self-esteem. The reading and discussion of technical material is required. Lab fee required. (SCANS 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11) Prerequisite: Consent of department chair or instructor.
