Review of ethical responsibilities and relationships between organizational departments, divisions, executive management, and the public. Learning Outcomes: Defi ne business ethics and list reasons why business fi rms should be ethical; describe major types of ethical reasoning that persons in business can use to analyze ethical dilemmas; explain how business, government, and society function as an interactive system; explain the concept of corporate social responsibility; and discuss social and ethical threats emerging from rapid technological change.     3 hours Decision making and problem solving processes in organizations, utilizing logical and creative problem solving techniques. Application of theory is provided by experiential activities such as small group discussions, case studies, and the use of other managerial decision aids. The student will identify individual, group and organizational decision making processes; solve managerial problems using logical and creative problem solving techniques; and use managerial decision aids.     (3-0) 3 hours Concepts of leadership and its relationship to management. Prepares the student with leadership and communication skills needed to motivate and identify. The student will determine individual leadership styles as related to self and others; distinguish differences between leadership and management; explain the effects of leadership style on organizational environment and its result on followers' motivation; and apply principles of leadership to organizational group dynamics.     3 hours Knowledge, skills, and tools that enable a leader/organization to facilitate change in a pro-active participative style. The student will explain the roles of change agent and champion in the process of change within the organization; show the progression of change from introduction to completion, examining barriers to successful implementation; and demonstrate ability to analyze internal and external environments as well as stakeholder issues in showing need for change.     3 hours Quality of productivity in organizations. Includes planning for quality throughout the organization, analysis of costs of quality, and employee empowerment. The student will define the role of quality in production and service systems; explain concepts related to quality costs; list and define the quality improvement process using analysis; and participate in problem solving experiences through creative team development.     3 hours A study of the strategic management process, including analysis of how organizations develop and implement a strategy for achieving organizational objectives in a changing environment. The student will explain the processes involved in management strategy development and develop a strategic management plan for an organization. Lab fee required.     (1-20) 3 hours Career-related activities encountered in the student's area of specialization offered through an individualized agreement among the college, employer, and student. Under the supervision of the college and the employer, the student combines classroom learning with work experience. Includes a lecture component. As outlined in the learning plan, the student will apply the theory, concepts, and skills involving specialized materials, tools, equipment, procedures, regulations, laws, and interactions within and among political, economic, environmental, social, and legal systems associated with the occupation and the business/industry and will demonstrate legal and ethical behavior, safety practices, interpersonal and teamwork skills, and appropriate written and verbal communication skills using the terminology of the occupation and the business/industry. (SCANS 5, 7, 9, 10, 11) Prerequisite: Consent of department chair.

    (3-0) 3 hours A study of the financial problems encountered in managing family financial affairs. Topics include financial security for the family, budgeting, use of credit, home ownership, financial tangles, and savings and investment planning. Learning Outcomes: Identify the concepts associated with the time value of money, and with personal budgeting, and recognize the differences among various savings and investment programs and classes of securities. Identify the options for personal insurance, describe retirement and estate planning techniques, explain the benefits of owning versus renting real property; and discuss consumer protection legislation. Lab fee required. (SCANS 4, 6, 8, 9) Prerequisite: None.

    3 hours A course in the unique aspects of managing a small business. Topics address management functions including how managers plan, exercise leadership, organize, and control the operations. The student will discuss the unique aspects of managing a small business; explain the importance of developing employees to enhance business profits; describe the employment process; explain the elements of total quality management programs; compare purchasing procedures and inventory control in two small businesses; and compare computerized operations of two small businesses. Lab fee required. (SCANS 2, 6, 7, 9) Prerequisite: None.

    3 hours Topics address recently identified current events, skills, knowledge, and/or attitudes and behaviors pertinent to the technology or occupation and relevant to the professional development of the student.
