    An introduction to the organization, financing, regulatory and delivery structures of the many and varied healthcare services, providers, payers, and agencies in the United States. Focuses on the healthcare organization, accreditation standards, payment and reimbursement systems. Current issues in healthcare will be addressed in order to enrich the students understanding and breadth of knowledge of the U.S. healthcare system along with the roles and functions of various healthcare professionals. PREREQUISITE: BUS E 100; AP 100 or 103; and ENGL 108.

Introduction to encoding tools and computer assisted coding software used in healthcare data processing today. Practical applications using advanced word processing techniques; presentation, database, and flow chart software programs. PREREQUISITE: BUS E 142 or instructor's permission.

    Introduction to ICD-9-CM diagnostic coding, the numeric classification of disease and injury, coding methodology, and guidelines. Demonstrates the importance of accuracy and specificity in code selection, acquaints students with the different forms of medical data, and lays the foundation for more advanced coding and medical record analysis. Students learn how to assign valid diagnostic codes using various source documents. PREREQUISITE: AP 100, ENGL 108, BUS E 126 and BUS E 127.

An introductory online course for beginners as well as a review for administrative, billing, coding, and data entry personnel currently working in a physician's office or for a billing service.
