Exploration of the advances suite of multimedia application programming interfaces (API) built into the Microsoft Windows operating system. Includes fundamentals of DirectX's API that give multimedia applications access to advanced features of high-performance hardware such as 3-D graphics acceleration clips and sound cards. Addresses control of low-level functions including 2-D graphics acceleration; support for input devices such as joysticks, keyboards, and mice; and control of sound mixing and sound output.
