This is the first semester of academic transfer Arabic. It is an introductory course intended for students with little or no knowledge of the language. Its aim is to present essential vocabulary and grammar, and to develop the pronunciation, listening, reading, and writing skills necessary for basic communication and comprehension. Customs and cultural insights are also presented. This course is cross-listed as ARAB 1411 but is also used in Study Abroad programs. A study of structural systems including concrete foundations and frames, wood framing and trusses, and structural steel framing systems. Includes detailing of concrete, wood, and steel to meet industry standards including the American Institute of Steel Construction and The American Concrete Institute. (2 Lec., 4 Lab.)

Architectural drawing and sketching. Emphasizes freehand drawing, perspectives, delineation in various media, and development of students' graphical expression. Includes an introduction to various reproduction methods. (2 Lec., 6 Lab.)
