Based on the requirements for the Child Development Associate National Credential (CDA). Topics on CDA overview, general observation skills, and child growth and development overview. The four functional areas of study are creative, cognitive, physical, and communication. (3 Lec., 2 Lab.)

A study of appropriate infant and toddler programs (birth to age 3), including an overview of development, quality caregiving routines, appropriate environments, materials and activities, and teaching/guidance techniques. This course is cross-listed as CDEC 1321. The student may register for either CDEC 1321 or CDEC 1421, but may receive credit for only one of the two. (3 Lec., 2 Lab.)

A study of the principles of normal child growth and development from conception to adolescence. Focus on physical, cognitive, social, and emotional domains of development. A survey of information regarding children with special needs including the possible causes and characteristics of exceptionalities, intervention strategies, available resources, referral processes, the advocacy role, and legislative issues. This course includes a minimum of 16 hours of field experience in a P-12 Special Education Classroom setting. (3 Lec., 4 Lab.)

Mentored and supervised by a workplace employee, the student achieves objectives that are developed and documented by the college and that are directly related to specific occupational outcomes. This may be a paid or unpaid experience. (3 Ext.)
