This course addresses the principles and practice of sports conditioning from a coaching perspective. Topics will include athletic needs evaluation, exercise programming, and program implementation. This course is designed to provide theoretical knowledge and practical skills in preparation for a national certification exam in personal training. Topics include guidelines for instructing safe, effective, and purposeful exercise, essentials of the client-trainer relationship, conducting health and fitness assessments, and designing and implementing appropriate exercise programming. A national personal training certification is offered at the end of the course.

A national group fitness instructor certification is offered at the end of the course.

Skills and techniques of aquatic rescues and swimming programs. May be repeated once for credit by non- Kinesiology majors. Materials fee required.

An overview of the field of physical education which includes the history, philosophy, principles, current concepts of physical education and career options. For kinesiology majors this course must be taken prior to any senior level (4000) kinesiology courses.
