ABE 014: English as a Second Language III

Class participants will have the opportunity to expand their basic interpersonal communication skills along with their cognitive academic skills. They will initiate and interpret the English language at a Level IV proficiency. Conversation skills will be developed at a natural level of production. Literacy skills will begin to comprehend text at an evaluative level. Prerequisite: completion of ESL III or Level IV placement by the ESL/CASAS.

English as a Second Language lab students will have an opportunity to participate in a wide menu of activities, including guided conversation, interactive video and audio tapes, computer programs, and individualized instruction, to improve their skills in the listening, speaking, reading and writing of the English language work toward becoming independent language learners. Each student will have an individualized plan for study based on an assessment and his/her own goals.
