The class focuses on ratio analysis, cost-volume-profit analysis, business valuation, and the relationship between risk and rate of return. The course emphasizes the managerial implications of financial risk. Prerequisite: ACCT& 201, 202 and 203

A broad overview of the market structure and marketing philosophies currently being used in business. It includes a description, analysis, and evaluation of the marketing system. Distribution, promotion, price, and product variations to achieve marketing goals are discussed. Each student will conduct a marketing research project.

An overview of Retail Merchandising including: potential careers, retail planning factors, the environment retailers work in, analyzing retail customers, legal and ethical behavior, location analysis, managing retail operations, merchandise buying factors, fashion, and issues involved in managing human resources. Projects relevant to these topics will be a part of the course. Field trips and guest speakers are included.

Topics to be discussed include interest rates, financial instruments, financial markets, financial institutions, central banks, monetary policy, financial stability, and modern monetary economics. Explains advertising and sales promotion elements and how they combine for a favorable buying decision by the target market. Students will develop a complete advertising and sales promotion campaign while working in conjunction with a local business.

An applied study of salesmanship in the distribution of goods and services. The areas covered are customer wants and needs, methods of obtaining and holding customers, defining various types of sales presentations, and using proven guidelines for effective sales presentations. Students will prepare and present two sales presentations.

A study of behavior, personality, self-management, self development, and elementary business psychology as an aid to furthering the student's business advancement and lifelong learning. Classroom focus is on the student's understanding of intrapersonal and interpersonal effectiveness with emphasis on communications, motivation, leadership, and personal attitude. Classroom discussion of the topics is encouraged.

Students will learn the skills to be effective First-Line Supervisor. Topics covered are planning, leading, organizing, controlling a work environment, team building, TQM, selecting, training, appraising and disciplining employees, and time management techniques.

An introduction to the theory of investments. Topics to be discussed include interest rates, mutual funds, bond prices and yields, diversification, futures contracts, stock options, and risk and rate of return.
