Failure to comply will result in the student being dropped from the course. Study of the child, family, community, and schools. Includes parent education and involvement, family and community lifestyles, child abuse, and current family life issues. Course content is aligned with State Board for Educator Certification Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities standards. Requires students to participate in a minimum of 15 hours field experience with children from infancy through age 12 in a variety of settings with varied and diverse populations. (3 Lec.)

A study of appropriate infant and toddler programs (birth to age 3), including an overview of development, quality routines, appropriate environments, materials and activities, and teaching/guidance techniques. This course is cross-listed as CDEC 1421. The student may register for either CDEC 1321 or CDEC 1421, but may receive credit for only one of the two. (3 Lec.)
