An introduction to welding careers and safety practice, including welding safety; OSHA and the Hazardous Communication Act; Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS); basic mathematics; measuring systems; shop operations; use and care of precision measuring tools; and the use and care of hand and power tools. Instruction on various types of welding equipment and processes, basic welding gases, fluxes, rods, electrodes, symbols, and blueprints. Lab required. (2 Lec., 3 Lab.)

This is a WECM Course Number. A study of ferrous and nonferrous metals from the ore to the finished product. Emphasis on metal alloys, heat treating, hard surfacing, welding techniques, forging, foundry processes, and mechanical properties of metal including hardness, machinability, and ductility.
