This is the first semester of academic transfer Korean. This course is an introductory course intended for students with little or no knowledge of the language. Its aim is to present essential vocabulary and grammar, and to develop the pronunciation, listening, reading, and writing skills necessary for basic communication and comprehension. Customs and cultural insights are also presented. This course is cross-listed as KORE 1311, which is also used in Study Abroad programs. Prerequisite: KORE 1411 or the equivalent or demonstrated competence approved by the instructor. This is the second semester of academic transfer Korean. This course continues the oral practice, reading, writing, grammar and cultural studies begun in KORE 1411. Students are expected to acquire a substantial amount of vocabulary and begin to deal with idiomatic language and more advanced syntax. This course is cross-listed as KORE 1312, which is used only in Study Abroad programs. Students may register for either KORE 1312 or KORE 1412 but may receive credit for only one of the two. This is a WECM Course Number. Prerequisite: LGLA 1313 or LGLA 1311. This course provides a working knowledge of the fundamentals of effective legal research and writing. Topics include law library techniques and operations, computer assisted legal research, writing briefs and legal memoranda, proper citation form for legal resources, ethical obligations of the paralegal in legal research, and legal research terminology. This is a WECM Course Number. Prerequisite: LGLA 1313 or LGLA 1301. This course provides an overview of the law and the legal system. Topics include elementary legal concepts of various areas of the law, procedures, terminology, ethical obligations of the paralegal, current issues in law, and the function, jurisdiction, practices, and principles of trial and appellate courts at state and federal levels. This course provides an overview of the paralegal profession including ethical obligations, regulation, professional trends and issues, and the paralegal's role in assisting the delivery of legal services.
