This is a WECM Course Number. A method of instruction providing detailed education, trainng and work-based experience, and direct patient/client care, generally at a clinical site. Specific detailed learning objectives are developed for each course by the faculty. On-site clinical instruction, supervision, evaluation and placement is the responsibility of the college faculty. Clinical experiences are unpaid external learning experiences. Course may be repeated if topics and learning outcomes vary. Emphasis will be on ICD-9 and CPT clinical coding with related project to be completed. (6 Ext.)

The student will identify, spell, and pronounce advanced medical terms; use advanced medical terms in context; construct and analyze advanced medical terms; and use medical references as resource tools. This course is cross-listed as HITT 2231. The student may register for either HITT 2331 or HITT 2231, but may receive credit for only one of the two. (3 Lec.)

Prerequisite: HITT 1401 Health Care Date Content and Structure, HITT 1345 Health Care Delivery Systems, HITT 1160 Introductory Clinical, ENGL 1301 Composition I and MATH 1314 College Algebra. Study of the many facets of quality standards and methodologies in the health information management environment. Topics include licensing, accreditation, compilation and presentation of data in statistical formats, quality improvement functions, quality tools, utilization management, risk management and medical staff quality issues. This is a WECM Course Number. An overview of wellness theory and its application throughout the lifespan of an individual. Focus is on attitude development, impact of cultural beliefs, and communication of wellness. Integration of common and alternative health practices and solutions to overall well-being are studied, assessed, and explored for the community. (2 Lec.)

This is a WECM Course Number. This course will provide an overview of the role of the nurse in working with dying client, families or caregivers of dying clients. This course is also intended to help the student understand the nature of death and dying as well as enable the student to come to grips with one's own personal feelings about death. It therefore has a cognitive as well as an affective component. To that end, while a majority of class time will be spent dealing with the "academics" of death, the course will also allow for a lot of time for an open discussion/sharing of feelings and experiences. (1 Lec., 2 Lab.)

A study of the concepts that serve as the foundation for health profession courses, including client care and safety issues, basic client monitoring, and health documentation methods. Basic skills such as vital signs, phlebotomy, catherization, sterile and aseptic technique, pulse oximetry are taught and required to be demonstrated by the student and integrated with critical thinking skills.
