This is a WECM Course Number. Field course in horticulture to study Texas native plants in their natural environment. The class will study the different regional ecosystems such as the Trans-Pecos, High Plains, East and West Cross Timbers, Central Texas (Hill Country), Piney Woods of East Texas, the Valley, the Gulf Coast and the Post Oak Belt. Students will learn about the varied soil types, rainfall, temperature ranges, and elevation of the regions. This course may be repeated if topics and learning outcomes vary. (6 Lab.)

This is a WECM Course Number. An in-depth study of herbaceous plant material. Topics include practices and procedures used in the identification, growth, propagation, maintenance, and utilization of herbaceous plants in the horticulture industry. (2 Lec., 3 Lab.)

This is a WECM Course Number. A study of the physical properties of soil including structure and texture. Topics include the origin and development of soils, the composition of a soil horizon, and the interrelationship between soil fertility and plants. (2 Lec., 3 Lab.)

Application of the science of soil-water plant relations and climatic conditions to develop effective scheduling and management of irrigation water systems for residential, commercial, industrial, part, and golf courses.
