With emphasis on critical thinking and caring behaviors, the student is introduced to the role of the vocational nurse as provider of care, coordinator of care, and member of a profession. Clinical experiences provide the opportunity for students to apply foundational nursing concepts and basic nursing skills necessary to practice safe care of the elderly client. Utilization of the nursing processin the assessment and management of the childbearing family. Emphasis on the bio- psycho-socio-cultural needs of the familyduring the phases of pregnancy, childbirth, and the neonatal period including abnormal conditions. The student will utilize critical thinking and a systematic problem-solving approach to plan for the basic care needs of the childbearing family during the prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum periods.
