The student will describe the purchasing function as it relates to other departments within the company and identify the basic concepts used in purchasing decisions. The concepts, terminology, principles, theory, and issues that are the substance of the practice of management are examined. The student will explain the various theories and processes of management including its functions; identify roles of leadership in business; and recognize elements of the communication process and the guidelines for organizational design. Application of theory is provided by experiential activities such as small group discussions, case studies, and the use of other managerial decision aids. Skills and attitudes will be built around a series of critical questions. The student will explain the roles of change agent and champion in the process of change within the organization; show the progression of change from introduction to completion, examining barriers to successful implementation; and demonstrate ability to analyze internal and external environments as well as stakeholder issues in showing need for change.
