The topic selected varies from year to year. May be repeated for degree credit with permission of instructor and if the topics are different. Topic for Winter 2011: GR 395: Advanced Study of Greek Lyric Poetry (3). We also review the various rules of grammar and syntax learned in previous Greek courses as they appear in the poems. In addition, we read a few works of secondary scholarship to aid our discussions of lyric. Primary texts may include Archilochus, Sappho, Alcaeus, Tyrtaeus, Simonides, Bacchylides, and Pindar.
